All Duncan wants is to dedicate himself to his wife and kids as a loving husband and father, as they try to live there as well as they can. However, their happiness is lost when their ten year-old daughter CLAIRE doesn't return home from school. Her disappearance is investigated by RACHEL MOORE, an FBI Agent who is assigned to the case. However, the girl is found dead hours later, smothered and raped. The Duncans are devastated.Īfter a couple of clues, Police Chief STANLEY HUGHES, who has a peculiar way of enforcing the law in town, arrests DANIEL MENDES, an illegal immigrant as the suspect. There are reasons to believe Mendes is guilty but the FBI Agent isn't convinced about it. To the Police Chief dissatisfaction, she starts to investigate PATRICK HOWARD, a local resident who he loves as his own son, as the person who committed the crime. Meanwhile, the guilt plagues Duncan, who is unable to deal with the loss of his daughter. When the FBI is out of the town, a decisive clue that links the immigrant to the crime is found.

Worked up, a crowd breaks into his cell and removes him from there, wanting to do justice with their own hands. The Police Chief does nearly nothing to prevent it, in fact he even incites Duncan to join them. Emotionally vulnerable and instigated by the bloodthirsty crowd, Duncan starts beating the Immigrant mercilessly as the FBI agent hastens to control the situation in time.
